Oh, don't get me wrong I really liked it. Love the 12-31-87 Bertha>PL powerhouse just to name one. I think it may have to do with Vince, it also may have to do with it being overplayed. I also preferred it in the 2-hole out of a Garcia opener rather than a Bobby first set closer. That's why I like these recs on songs so I can go back and judge great versions based on the playing rather than a memory of some lame 6 song set with a PL closer at some show I went to that has left a bad taste in my mouth.

Hardly fair to bring up 5/1/81, Death&Mercy, as every song from that show is a stunner ! ;-)

Truly, one of the best.

what i like about that 12/11/79 Promised Land is the big contributions from Brent and the longer jam they throw in at the end after the final verse.

Promised is one of those songs that was so ubiquitous, I think great versions often go unnoticed--true as well for "Don't Ease" and "Big River."
